The Bass In Eagle Lake

E-mail Print PDF

I'll  never forget my bass fishing trip with fishing guide Andy Guess.  We went out to  Racine county in Wisconsin  on Eagle Lake.  Man !   that was a time to remember.  It was about 7:00 A.M. when I met Andy out there. He told me that it was plenty early enough to catch what we were going after.

He was right. Because about 8:00 or 9:00 A.M. they started hitting our lures. Large mouth bass. Andy was fishing with a popper under the shaded docks and shorelines where there may have been some boats docked or even fallen logs in the water. I was using my floating rapala  on his advice.  The shade seem the best because the sun was high that morning and The bass were hitting good. If I had not gone out with him on this trip  I don't know if I would have done as well on catching bass. He knew where to cast and why.

After it started slowing down as the day went on Andy tried different lures including a little mack worm with a bend to it. He caught  more then me. But he was a pro. He also used colored fishing line green and blue. After trying his approach during the right time and season,I found it to be pretty affective. Plus I have learned to do this type of fishing in about the second week of June. In Wisconsin. As far as the size of the bass. There were none under 11'' inches that I remember. They were like little footballs out there. The size limit at that time out there  I believe was 15 '' inches but we caught a few keepers bigger then that. Mostly  catch and release.
