Ice Fishing is a Great Time.

Ice fishing   is a great time and can be a lot of fun. However take caution always. The way our weather pattern can go, Ice fishing can be dangerous. There has been many mishaps and tragedies on the ice. Shanties have fallen through. Trucks, and cars, snowmobiles, ATV’s and of course humans. Precaution is always advisable. Keep an eye on the weather for days before venturing out on the ice. Make sure there has been a long enough cold snap and make sure you know that the ice is good and frozen. There are many predictions as to how thick the ice should be before going out to ice-fish. Sometimes even with thick ice accidents have occurred, where water does not always freeze as solid as other areas on the lake..
My prediction is at least 5 or 6 inches thick or more. That’s probably too thick for a lot of you ice fishers. But having an outdoor show and a website, it would be vary foolish of me to not advise people to be cautious enough.
I'm not trying to scare people out of ice-fishing I just want to lay out some awareness of the dos and don't s. I go ice fishing, and I love it. Just another reason why I enjoy the great outdoors. But please, use common logic and be careful.Â
Now the fun stuff. Bring along your tip-ups, Auger, buckets, scoops, jigging poles, shanty, Coleman stoves and cookware, plenty of food and drinks, warm clothing like goretex, and ice sleds for pulling your equipment and bait.   I like to use wax worms, or shiners, in most occasions. Also bring lighting, like a lantern in case you’re really enjoying yourself, and have a good time.
The time spent on the ice can be a lot of fun. But learn it. Ask around, read about the ice conditions in your local area. Check with your nearest DNR or look it up on the Internet  Do what ever it takes. You can have the time of your life.
But as always take caution and learn the ice. Who knows? You may catch northern, bass, perch, crappie, bluegill and who knows what else.  It's fun and well worth the money you spend on the equipment and your fishing license. Even if you don't catch anything. It's a great time.
