A Wisconsin Family Goes Pan Fishing
I remember many outdoor adventures that I have been on. But recently the thought of my youth came back to me as I sat here and reminisce the good old days of my life when I didn't have a care in the world, and my mother and father were alive. I remember my old man having a piece of property in Woodruff Wisconsin, where we use to go and camp on it in my parents old camper. That was fun to me. My dad had an old well on the property and my mom enjoyed watching us kids go out and pump well water as the other child would drink that ice cold water being pumped out of the ground. I loved the taste of that water back then. Maybe it was because it came from a place that we called up north. But along with all these fine memories that I have the thought of Brandy Lake stands out in my mind. My parents would take us to this little fishing pier off of the boat landing to fish for Pan fish... Bluegill, , sunfish, crappie, even perch. It was really awesome. In those days The planet was less crowded , so less people were traveling to the north woods. Which made things fun. I remember the pan fishing pier sat off of hwy 51 going north. That was in the old days, when I think it was two lanes. Now the traffic is horrendous
and people always seem to be in a hurry. I am not even sure if the old pier is there anymore. More people are crowding the boat landing upsetting any off shore fishing there It's just not the same. But the memories still hang around . I still remember my mom and dad buying worms to bait our hooks, and simple common fishing rods and reels and bobbers, the old red and white bobbers. I remember my brother on one side of the pier and me with my back to him on the other side fishing for those pan fish.

I can still see my mom down the shoreline with my stepsister fishing, and my dad standing watching over my brother and myself , making sure we were doing things right. Then my dad taking over one of our fishing rods of either my brother or myself, depending on who caught their limit of fish first. I have to laugh because I recall one stinger between all of us. The idea was to fill that stringer and go home and clean our fish and mom would cook us up a small but good tasting fish fry. It still tugs at my heart. Because those were the days. We would catch plenty of fish between the five of us. A lot has changed since. I still recall the blue skies and sunny clear days and what looked to be crystal clear waters. It was heaven. Some of the fish we would have to put back because they were to small. But it seems to me that we caught plenty of good size pan fish, Because of those memories I will focus on my family and grandchildren going on one of those old fashioned fishing trips. Because when they get this experience they'll never forget it. I do not know if we can fill a stinger any more but we can try. Just go with the fishing regulations and everybody have a try at it. It's fun and relatively inexpensive.
We could make it a family outing and have a lot of fun fishing the old fashioned way. Sometimes it's just plain old fashioned fun. Bluegills Crappie, sunfish , perch and more. Nothing tastes better then fresh cold inland spring lake game fish.
