Well, Wisconsin's earn a buck has done me in. I am on a good buck but need to take a doe first to earn my buck sticker.

Had a nice mature doe and her two fawns come in last night. They milled around a small pond where I am hunting a funnel. They stayed out of bow range for an hour of so. Finally at last light momma decided it was safe to head out to the alfalfa field just behind me.

The shot was 30-40 yards, well within my range but the arrow had to clear the wood line where it meets the field. I knew it would be a tough shot but I have made harder ones and I need this doe to go for a ride in my truck.

My eyes searched the edge of the trees looking for an opening and I found it. The doe stepped to it and I now had a clear shot at her head. Two more steps and it's go time. She took those last two steps and turned quartering away, it looked good, "REAL GOOD"!

I placed the pin right behind her shoulder held for a second and touched the arrow off. The first sound I heard was my arrow making contact with some leaves as it cleared the wood lot and entered the field. Then I heard a dull thud. Not the loud rib cracking smack that I usually hear. The white flags went up and the field was empty in a second.

I heard that arrow hit something. Maybe it hit the ground after deflecting off a tree limb, or maybe it hit her farther back, possibly a liver shot. With light fading fast and deer in the woods on the other side of the field blowing at me. I decided to back out and look this morning.

Talk about not getting any sleep last night. I am hoping to find my arrow, a good blood trail and a large mature doe at the end of it. I'll post later with the results once I return
