The Day Before Our Bow hunt

Recently a friend of mine and myself decided to go out on an early Wisconsin bow hunt. It was only into the second weekend of opening season. I got written permission from two land owners in Wisconsin. On opening weekend we had some wind and rain so it kind of put a damper on that hunt. So we thought we would go out on the second weekend on Saturday morning. I called my friend two days ahead of time and asked him if he wanted to check the properties with me after work on Friday. He agreed so we went out about 3:30 p.m.
We checked out a small piece of that property which we found fresh buck rubs and scraps on the ground. It was pretty nice. We found a small pond for those whitetail to drink from. Some nice land transitions where the deer had been passing through. Talk about getting excited for our morning hunt. We did not stay there very long because we did not want to walk through there any more then we had to. We did not want to stir things up to much and scare those deer. In the CWD areas in Wisconsin you are not suppose to bait with apples. There is still much to learn about Chronic Wasting Disease . They do not want to spread the disease through saliva by the deer licking and eating the apples and then transferring it to other areas where they may eat. We already know that this can happen through the laws of nature on it's own. But the more we can do to help , the better. We had pretty much decided that this was where we would hunt in the morning. But before we confirmed the decision to hunt that piece of land we thought we would check out the other piece of property and then decide. So we did. What we found there was a huge cut bean Field between two areas of tree lines. 30 acres to be exact. Which would be great when we go goose hunting. So on that very day. We checked out two nice hunting properties to enjoy part of our hunting season. In this case it paid off to ask the land owners of these farms. Why? Because it gave us two hunting properties. If you can find something like that to hunt on . That's not a bad start. Remember always check with land owners. Even if you get a few that say no. keep searching. It might pay off. We decided to do our bow hunt on the first property with the pond and the land transitions that looked good for deer. It paid off. Because my friend got a big doe. I got a small four point buck. Not to bad.
