Unt 35

Â
I just got back from Unit 35. For those of you who are not familiar.   Unit 35 is a labeled hunting zone in Vilas County Wisconsin . The deer herds are down in numbers there in 2010. However they appear to be growing back up in numbers in the deer population.
There are different reasons for the drop in the deer herds in Unit 35. Some of those reasons that were brought to my attention are  wolf population has grown in the Midwest. Another is Bear population has grown.  Also harsh winters throughout the years , and over hunting could all be a factor in the drop of deer numbers in unit 35. It is difficult to pin down blame on any one situation. When funds are trying to be raised to regenerate our wildlife and land, You know that some of those funds that we pay out on our license and other ways that the state makes money, is definitely put into the deer herd programs. Why would it not be? Because larger deer herds mean more hunters and more funds being spent into the state. It is difficult to say where the fault lies.. Maybe blame is not a word to be used in this difficult situation.
The good news is this. It looks as if the deer numbers in Unit 35 are slowly  starting to come  back.  If that being the case. Then by 2012 maybe 2013, the deer herds should come back to larger numbers in unit 35. It is beautiful country there. But like many other areas, problems can come around. It will take time. But it seems to be looking better for that area. So whether you are a nature lover or hunter or both, this could be good news for those who like the Vilas County area. In Wisconsin.
I suggest if you want to know more about the deer herds in unit 35. You may want to call the Department of Natural Resources in that area. Or in Madison Wisconsin. Or better yet. Look it up on the Internet to see if the deer numbers are coming back in unit 35. and other units where the problem of smaller deer herds exist. Here is a link that may be of some help. Copy the link and paste in the browser and check it out

This year we were only allowed to take bucks. However that could be subject to change.  But if it is subject to change in the future for the better, then good deer management is a must but not always an easy call.
