| Coyote populations are larger today as well with the human race. Coyotes are growing in the wild and populated areas. They have been known to hunt for pets and garbage in populated areas where humans live.
Fatal attacks are rare from coyotes and rarely happens to humans. However there has been an incident or two.  A prime example was once with a young Canadian. A 19 year old women by the name of Taylor Mitchell. Two coyotes attacked the woman while she was hiking in a national park in Eastern Canada. Biologists say attacks like this are extremely rare and that the incident points to another phenomenon. The rapid proliferation of the dog like predators in the cities as well as the wilderness.  According to Ralph Maughan, who operates a popular wildlife blog that tracks human and wildlife encounters, claims coyotes have become the most large abundant predatory animal on the continent. This attack in which took place Nova Scotia has surprised wildlife enthusiasts across North America
