An EPA Letter to the Producer of Outdoor Wild
|
Dear Mr. Romano,  Thank you for contacting me in support of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulating greenhouse gases (GHGs). I appreciate hearing from you.  As you may know, on April 17, 2009, the EPA published a proposed endangerment finding regarding the effects of GHGs on public health. This proposed finding is a result of a scientific review ordered by the Supreme Court in 2007. On December 7, 2009, following a 60-day public comment period, the EPA issued its final findings that GHGs threaten public health and welfare, and that motor vehicles contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. For more information on this finding, please visit http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/endangerment.html.  On January 21, 2010, Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) introduced S.J. Res. 26. This resolution would reject the EPA's endangerment finding that GHGs threaten public health and welfare, and also nullify any GHG regulations based on the finding. On June 10, 2010, I voted against a motion to consider the resolution. The motion failed by a vote of 47-53 and the resolution was not considered. I opposed the motion because by blocking action on climate change, the Murkowski resolution would have stalled our march toward energy independence through more efficient vehicles, alternative fuels and renewable energy, all of which can spur new American jobs.  Thank you again for contacting me. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.  Sincerely,              Russell D. Feingold United States Senator |
